چکیده
Abstract On 8 August 2020, northwest North Carolina experienced an Mw 5.1 earthquake that caused damage to buildings and roads in the city of Sparta. A regional centroid moment tensor solution shows was result slip on a reverse fault with minor strike-slip component. Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) data, from Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Advanced Land Observing Satellite #2 (ALOS2) satellite, reveal deformation field is more complex than expected single earthquake. The data also apparent rupture at Earth’s surface local roads. Modeling InSAR indicates associated very shallow normal faulting event equivalent about overprinted possibly occurred aseismically.

The 17 December 2016 Solomon Islands earthquake (Mw 7.9) initiated ~103 km deep in the subducting Solomon Sea slab near the junction of the Solomon Islands and New Britain trenches. Most aftershocks are located near the Solomon Islands plate boundary megathrust west of Bougainville, where previous large interplate thrust faulting earthquakes occurred in 1995 (Mw 7.7) and 1971 (Mw 8.0). Teleseis...
متن کاملShort Note Dynamic Rupture Simulation of the 2008 Mw 7.9 Wenchuan Earthquake with Heterogeneous Initial Stress
The rupture process and tectonic surroundings of the 2008 Wenchuan, China, earthquake are both complex in a way that might be related to the heterogeneous stress field of the Longmen Shan region. In this study, we construct dynamic models with heterogeneous initial stress to reproduce a kinematic inversion result by Wen et al. (2012) and investigate the physical mechanisms of the variable slip ...

The Mw 7.9 Denali fault earthquake in central Alaska of 3 November 2002 triggered earthquakes across western North America at epicentral distances of up to at least 3660 km. We describe the spatial and temporal development of triggered activity in California and the Pacific Northwest, focusing on Mount Rainier, the Geysers geothermal field, the Long Valley caldera, and the Coso geothermal field...
متن کاملThe SanrikuOki, Japan, Earthquake of December 28, 1994 Mw 7.7 Rupture of a different asperity from a previous earthquake
Fault geometry, depth, and slip distribution of the Sanriku-oki earthquake of December 28, 1994 (Ms 7.5) are estimated from seismic waveforms, geodetic measurements, and tsunami waveforms, and compared with those of the 1968 Tokachi-oki earthquake (Mw 8.2), the most recent large earthquake in the epicentral region. Seismic wave inversions indicate a shallowly dipping thrust type mechanism and t...
متن کاملSource Parameters of the 2016-2017 Central Italy Earthquake Sequence from the Sentinel-1, ALOS-2 and GPS Data
In this study, joint inversions of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Global Position System (GPS) measurements are used to investigate the source parameters of four Mw > 5 events of the 2016–2017 Central Italy earthquake sequence. The results show that the four events are all associated with a normal fault striking northwest–southeast and dipping southwest. The observations, in all cases, are ...
